ENJOY notes; This opens with a one pass keyboard part, done in the studio on a Yamaha S80 synth into the studio to a Roland digital recorder which added some effects. What follows is all multi tracked. The only guitar used is a SG sent to an Electro Harmonix superego effect then a Ditto looper then an orange amp. This was picked up by a close mic (shure bata 57) and a far mic (shure sm-50) and sent into studio monitors and recorded. The bass was also looped at times and recoded direct. The synths were recorded listening to these tracks. The whole end section was recorded was just a Fender parlor guitar with a magnetic pickup attached amped by a fender super champ. A small “Zoom” recorded the performance done in my living room during a Hurricane.
GIANT ISLAND notes: Lots of Multi traced guitars and synths were used. A Yamaha DX mod, a Chorma polarus synth, a S80. The percussion is a Lynn Drum machine. There is a section of acouplayedstic guitars all done in a day at my home studio. A Lexcon ecco was used and the S80 for piano like sounds. Feeding the mix into a large room and rerecording some sections was done. The section with a solo piano was played by Bob Martain on keyboards. I played Bass with him live and added some guitar later. Next on the track its me talking and playing harmonica with the Lynn Drum doing the percussion. It ends with electric guitars and me with a vocal.
THIS NEEDS A NAME notes: The main electric Guitar used is a Charvel Surfcaster semi hollow Body sent through a Way Huge Fat matrass effect and a Vox amp. The Bass Guitar was a Gibson Les Paul hollow body. A S80 synth did the organ like sounds. They were recorded chronologically as appears on this track. Some synth sounds came from a Korg poly 800. I played the percussion parts on the synth keybourds.
Notes on PROGRESS , the opening was composed on an Amiga computer using my own 8 bit samples. The next section I played in one pass on a Yamaha S80 synthesizer with modified presets direct into the recorder. The song “Lucky Man” was popular in the United States around 1973. Greg Lake wrote it. ELP played it. I recorded the Keyboard parts first with a Croma Synth, then did the Bass. The vocal I sang listening to the other tracks and playing acoustic guitar. The final section begins with acoustic steel sting guitar and bass, then adds electric guitars and synths.
The album EDURANCE begins with modified electric guitars and synths recorded about six times then combined into the into heard here. The second composition is called “bow solo”. This is manly a Chroma Synth used to provide bells ,strings and oscillator filter resonance. The voices were done on the S80 Synth. The percussion was done on a hand drum with added echoes. The third section features a guitar synthesizer with percussion played on the Yamaha S80 keyboard that also did the piano sounds. It fades with piano. The fourth part is mainly 3 acoustic guitars backed with some piano and a few effects. An oboe like sound done with a Korg Poly 800 synth Opens the Fifth section, the melody is repeated on guitar. The sixth section opens with a sequencer then a lot of backup I played on the S80. The seventh section features the poly 800 programmed and played by me. Nice pretty voicing done on a parker fly guitar concludes it. The ninth section is a sequence with bass added, some S80 synth. The synthesized guitar returns this time to sound similar to a sitar then a fat synth with synth flute from the poly 800 concludes the 10th section. The next composition is mainly acoustic guitars and keyboard backing. Finally is a piece featuring whistling and real ocarina.
PUFFER FISH is a solo done on an Ibanez S series guitar played threw a new Fender Champ Amp. All of the effects are produced by the amps on board effects and feedback in the room. No edits. All improv.
